Puerto Plata has a surface of 1857 Km2. Its population is of 312,706 inhabitants. Its population density is of 163, 1 /Km2 inhabitants.
Puerto Plata includes many tourist places, such as Cabarete Beach as it is very well-known by aquatic sports that are practiced in this beach. There has been a great change in Sosua and Cabarete in Puerto Plata Province during the last years. These two places have had a tremendous development and have become one of the most important attractions for national and international tourism.

The economy is based on agriculture, industry and tourism. In relation to industries, food manufacturing, rum and smaller products have had a great impact on economy. Its tourism is mainly the massive tourism, but there is also some increasing exclusive tourism lately. The main tourist areas in Puerto Plata are: Sosua, Cabarete, Golden Beach and San Felipe de Puerto Plata.
