San Jose de Ocoa, was created on September 6th, 2000 and it was given the name of the principal river in the province. It has a territorial surface of 855, 40 square kilometers.
You can find Monsignor Nouel and La Vega Provinces at the North of San Jose de Ocoa, San Cristóbal Province is at the East, Azua Province is at the West and Peravia Province is at the South.
In the year 2002 the total population was: 62,368 inhabitants; from them 32,630 men and 29,738 women. The population density is 73 inhabitants per square kilometer.
Principal Municipality: San Jose de Ocoa, with 34,478 inhabitants.
Other Municipalities: Rancho Arriba and Sabana Larga.
Municipal districts: El Pinar, La Ciénaga and Nizaro - Las Auyamas.
This province is in the South end of the Central Mountain Range, denominating this part of the Mountain range as Ocoa Mountain Range. The South portion of the New Valley Bulk is in the North part of the province.
Their main rivers are Ocoa and Nizao Rivers
Farming is the only economic activity and the main products are coffee, potato and fruit trees.
